It is important for us as Christians to encourage Humility and modesty in all that we do.
Tonight's Sermon was focusing on Matthew 25:31-46, It was saying that we need to look after those in need. I think it is wrong to do this just because we are told to, we need to remember what we have been given, what we have been promised and what Jesus did for us. It is not much to ask that we share what we have with those who have not.
We must be careful with what we do, there is a need to look after others physically and spiritually but not to blow our own trumpets.
My take on the will of God is for us to:
1.Love him, he made us to worship him
2.Love Others, caring for others, especially those who really need it, many references to Widows & Orphan
3.Share the good news about Jesus.
I am not aware of anywhere in the Bible it saying we should live to excess, but I do know Ecclesiastes does state we should enjoy life. I think it is vitally important for us to ensure everyone enjoys life.
"The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he
commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys
his word, God's love is truly made complete in him." is pretty full on! I don't know about you guys but I find it pretty hard to follow fully in the way of Jesus. It is really easy to be generic, ie follow but to a level but not be confrontational or bringing the important stuff to the forefront. It is easy to slip and slide and melt into the background. We have been called to be different and have been called to walk as Jesus did. God's word is not a buffet from which you can choose just the items you like, it is a prepared meal that gives us the nutrients we need to live in the way that we were intended to live. We need the word of God to live in us. We need to encourage each other to build up our relationships with God and with others with the knowledge of the word behind us.
